Anna Paquin | Coming out for Give A Damn
By admin
Anna Paquin, the star we have all come to know and love on True Blood, has raised a few eyebrows. Clay Aiken, Cindi Lauper, and Anna Paquin have all publicly declared their sexuality.
Anna Paquin made her announcement of bisexuality in the Give A Damn campaign against hate crimes. Many celebrities chose to speak in this ad, which supports an organization that offers everything from same day loans to certain GLBT causes to public service announcements such as the one Anna Paquin spoke in.
Anna Paquin announces her bisexuality
At the beginning of a 30-second public service announcement, Anna Paquin very simply states “I’m bisexual”. No word on if Anna Paquin is currently dating a guy or a girl – or anyone.

What Anna Paquin’s bisexuality means
What does Anna Paquin mean when she identifies as bisexual? In general, bisexuality means that a person is attracted to both men and women. Some self-identified bisexuals are equally attracted to both genders. Other self-identified bisexuals have a slight preference for one gender or the other.
The Klein Sexual Orientation Grid and Kinsey scale both codify this spectrum of sexuality. Both scales use a 0-6 scale; 0 is heterosexual and 6 is homosexual. If someone falls in the 3-5 range, they are usually considered bisexual.
Anna Paquin joins many other celebrities
Anna Paquin is not the only celebrity that speaks for the Give A Damn campaign. Wanda Sykes, Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg, Eric Roberts, Sharon Osbourne, Kelly Osbourne, Jason Mraz, Judith Light, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Kardashian, and Kevin Alejandro all speak out in the advertisement. These celebrities represent a cross-section of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and straight communities.
Taking on hate crime and the military
The Public Service Announcement where the Anna Paquin bisexual announcement is made has two goals: First, it speaks out against hate crimes against GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender) individuals. Without mentioning the name of the policy, the PSA also takes on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. The DADT policy kicks openly gay members of the military out of service, and is currently being reviewed. After they have been kicked out of their home or their military group, many GLBT individuals are forced to get cheap payday loans to survive. The Give A Damn campaign aims to diminish problems like this.
