“Deanna and I are very proud to welcome our grandchild Parker Brett to the Favre family. Parker Brett was born on Friday, April 2, weighing 7 lb. 7 oz., and we’re pleased to say that both (sic) Mom, Dad and Parker Brett are healthy and doing great.”

Even though Brittany Favre’s father (and Parker’s grandfather) Brett Favre may annoy some fans with his constant retirement talk, there isn’t much doubt whether or not the grandfather quarterback can still play. Many wonder if he will play long enough to be alongside Parker Brett, but of course that would be almost impossible. Brett is still unsure if he’ll even return to the Minnesota Vikings in 2010, or if he’s retire to his own business ventures such as payday loans. Last month the IRS announced that over the next three years it will conduct 6,000 random audits of businesses that utilize independent contractors. The motivation seems clear considering the fact that more than half of the states are borrowing money from the federal government to help pay unemployment claims since there are record numbers of Americans out of work. CNNMoney.com suggests that in the next 10 years, many rules will be greatly enforced of independent contractors and could generate as much as $7 billion extra in tax revenues.

Millions of misclassifications

The IRS thinks that more than 5 million workers that are being paid as independent contractors should be reclassified as employees, as said in an article posted on the BNET web site. MBO Partners, a business service firm specializing in placement of consultants and freelancers, claims that independent contractors are currently the fastest growing segment of the American workforce.

Cutting costs can be risky

Many businesses put extreme value in independent contractors in terms of flexibility and talent. They can be disengaged and engaged again without the labor burden and red tape that comes with full-time employees. In simple terms, it will cost less to pay independent contractors. Even if the misclassification is unintentional, improperly classifying workers as independent contractors could mean back taxes and many fines.

IRS requirements for classification of employees and independent contractors are strict, but because employers stand to save so much money by classifying workers as independent contractors, they routinely disregard the rules. Companies pay the contractors and report it on the IRS 1099 form, yet they don’t pay the payroll taxes or unemployment insurance required when employee compensation is reported on W-2 forms.

IRS audits may have a domino effect

CNNMoney.com and president and CEO of MBO Partners, Gene Zaino, say that most states share data with the IRS now and a noncompliance finding by the IRS will probably lead to issues with the state labor department and many other state agencies. All businesses that are trying to avoid paying unemployment insurance funds should take the steps needed to verify independent contractor classifications given the interconnectedness of the federal and state tax agencies as well as the new IRS compliance agenda.

All businesses that have independent contractors should review the applicable state and IRS classification guidelines or get a hold of a tax attorney. Workers or employers who are uncertain about classification can request a status determination by completing and filing IRS Form SS-8.

Some get good news

Since the IRS is heightening enforcement of classification rules, the random hiring and firing of independent contractors could become something in the past. This is good news for workers who’ve gone years without social security or unemployment entitlements, and who’ve had to pay self-employment taxes as a result of misclassification. This possible classification as an employee will make it easier to qualify for forms of consumer credit such as payday loans, home mortgages, and auto financing.

In 2008, Ohio passed a comprehensive payday lending reform law, HB 545. The interest rates that lenders were charging on payday cash advances were capped with this law. Intended to further limit payday lenders, HB 486 is now being co-sponsored by Representatives Jennifer Garrison, Gerald Stebelton and Matt Lundy after two years since the law went into effect.

The argument for more payday loan regulation through HB 486

Ohio’s HB 486 calls for more regulation on the payday lending industry. Many lawmakers are frustrated that payday lending stores are charging fees for services such as check cashing, loan origination and credit checks. When HB 545 passed in 2008, the goal was to reduce the cost of payday loans and more heavily regulate the industry. Ohio’s HB 486 is designed to solidify regulations even more. The fact that payday lending customers are paying $ 15 – $ 25 on every $ 100 borrowed for a two or four week period concerns legislators. Many borrowers who are not financially responsible end up deeper in debt.

Disagreements on more regulation for payday loans

While the payday lending industry is not often well received or well liked, HB 486 attempts to punish payday lenders for following the law. Equaling to most credit cards, interest rates on payday loans were capped at 28 percent annual interest when HB 545 was passed. However, over the two-week period of most payday loans, that interest rate does not provide the income lenders need to cover their costs. More than 700 payday lending stores have closed down, and about 2,500 Ohio residents lost their jobs.

Ohio lenders controlled under the Small Loans Act

In an attempt to remain above waters, Ohio payday lenders began operating under the Small Loans Act. Under the Small Loans Act, lenders are able to charge fees for check cashing, credit checks and loan origination. The Small Loans Act also requires increased reporting, cash-on-hand and more regulated advertising. Following the letter of the law, payday lending stores in Ohio are charging fees and operating under the Small Loans Act to ensure that they are providing a legal service. And HB 486 is looking to end this practice.

The math of payday loans in Ohio

Many legislators who believe payday lenders need more regulation are looking to figures such as 391 percent APR to back their finds. Both HB 545 and HB 486, however, do not take into account that payday loans are designed specifically for short-term financial solutions for between two and four weeks. Furthermore, the only other available option for most payday loan customers is to turn to bank fees of $ 30 or more for bounced checks. Many payday loan customers have credit that does not qualify them for more traditional financial products.

No, it wasn’t a jilted lover or lover’s wife or girlfriend seeking revenge. As Zap2It remembers in the fateful 2009 episode of “Desperate Housewives,” it was a patented fatal car crash. Edie swerved to avoid Orson, who was “running across the street after one of his breaking and enterings.” Edie’s car struck a utility pole, and she was electrocuted by the power lines that fell into the puddle of water where her body laid. It was the collision and electrocution that claimed the life out of her.

Remembering Nicollette Sheridan’s character, flashback episodes of “Desperate Housewives” followed immediately after that episode. In two of the flashbacks, interestingly, Edie “smacks” some senses into Lynette and Bree in hopes they uncover the strength to face their problems. When Edie’s son Travis finds out about her death and is barely fazed, Mrs. McCluskey “smacks” some sense into him. The final smack came when Mrs. McCluskey “smacks down” Edie for her attempt to sympathize with McCluskey over having lost a son.

It’s smacking coincidence, isn’t it?

It is an interesting word choice on the part of Zap2It, considering Nicollette Sheridan’s experience with Marc Cherry. It could be argued coincidental, since the episode aired more than likely before the smack down was public knowledge. However, Edie’s death itself was made clear in Gabby’s flashback from the same episode, when Nicollette Sheridan’s character confided that she was going to die before her 50th birthday. Oh ABC, how convenient. We’ll see if Nicollette Sheridan smacks you down, and whether you’ll need secured loans.

Amy Mickelson, wife of 2010 Masters champion Phil Mickelson, is fighting breast cancer. At one point, Mickelson left golf for a few months to help care for her. That isn’t enough tabloid for some people. Since Tiger Woods both failed to win The Masters (although he did finish in a tie for fourth) and failed to juggle multiple strippers at the 19th hole, the tabloid media has taken it upon themselves to fail miserably by flinging trash at Phil and Amy Mickelson. Allegedly, both have had affairs although that isn’t the issue. The timing of these supposed revelations is what strikes a sour note after a fine weekend of golf by Phil.

As PGA pro Curtis Strange put it on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd, Phil is “at ease” playing at Augusta National. For this Masters, he was hitting the greens and making all the shots. Not only will Mickelson take home his third green jacket, which makes him the only one of eight players that won that many, but he will also be bringing home $ 1.35 shares of the Masters payout. The amount in prize money that was total was $ 7.5.

In August 2007, Woods had an interview with Men’s Fitness, but the magazine says there was no special arrangement as Lawton claimed. Yet ESPN points out that “a former Men’s Fitness editor-in-chief told the New York Post in December that the cover story was in exchange for silence regarding any affairs.” What is Steinberg saying about all of this? Nothing so far to Vanity Fair or ESPN, and Woods buddy Byron Bell – who allegedly arranged travel so mistress Jamie Jungers could play with Tiger – is similarly mum.

Respectively the other two half lives of Uranium 233 and Uranium 235 are 160,000 years and 703,800,000 years. However, “new” isn’t really defined.

The Obama nuclear update on our policy also includes no change to existing doctrine that states harboring or enabling terrorists will not be spared the nuclear rod in the event of an attack. Also, any other country currently host to any of our stockpiled weapons (such as Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium) can make use of a weapon only with our approval if they really need to.

Iran is far away

He said that Obama is “inexperienced and an amateur politician.” He further added that “American politicians are like cowboys. Whenever they have legal shortcomings their hands go to their guns.” The revised Obama nuclear policy, in reality, changes little.

Tiger Woods had an affair according to…nothing

Tiger Woods has been fingered in the tabloids for having an affair on his wife with some lady named Rachel Uchitel, and that leads to a lot of searches for Tiger Woods Mistress Pictures. This is confirmed proof that a lot of people need hobbies as they really are that bored, probably from watching professional golf. (I don’t mean to disparage the game, but that’s such a good joke that I’m going to keep it.) To top it off, he also got into a car accident driving his Escalade near his Florida home, and rumors began about domestic disturbances. Oh – and he had a traffic accident too!

To top it off, he also got in a traffic accident.Evidently, he left his house after 2 am and crashed his car, but he wasn’t drinking.He hit a fire hydrant, then a tree. This is according to an article in the New York Post.That being said, the airbags didn’t deploy, which means he was going slower than 33 mph, and while he hasn’t been arrested YET by the fuzz, they have said charges might come later.One must ponder the irony that Tiger Woods, one of the greatest players of the long ball in the game’s history, might face charges related to – the kicker – driving, if you’ll pardon the pun?

Don’t get me wrong; it isn’t that I have anything against Tiger Woods, because I don’t.Thankfully, he wasn’t injured, neither was anyone else, and apparently got home safely.I also don’t a grudge against golf, but I find it incredibly boring to watch.   Frankly, if he is having marital problems, that is between him, his wife, and any other involved parties which as of now includes the Florida Highway Patrol.Why anyone gives a tinkerse about this kind of inanity is beyond the realm of reason, and we could all get some instant cash and possibly find something constructive to do.
