I Hate This Stutter
By admin
I am somebody who developed a stutter at the age of four and it continued to affect my life for the next eighteen years. My name is Steve Hill and I am now (2010) thirty-six years of age and have been fluent for around the last fourteen years. In this article I am going to write about the different ways in which people try to hide their stuttering issues.
I will give examples from my own experiences and I am sure that many other people who stutter do the same as what I used to do. I hope this ends up being a good form of stuttering help to the readers.
The first example is in a restaurant. Fluent people look at a menu and will order what they want to eat, this might sound very obvious but this is not what I used to do. I would not look on the menu for something that I wanted but would look for something that I felt confident I would be able to say. I had a huge dislike and fear to certain words beginning with certain letters, probably the worst words were the ones which started with the letter “b”. I would therefore of course avoid foods such as braised steak.
One evening when I was around sixteen years of age, I went out for a meal with a group of friends to an Indian restaurant.I would just look at the names of these dishes and would just know that there was absolutely no way that I would be able to order them without stuttering. Chicken balti, lamb curry, chicken bhuna, chicken jalfrezi – are there any simple items that I can order?. Have I guess what I ended up ordering? I know this is basically an impossible question to answer but the actual answer was a plate of scampi and chips.
If people asked me a question to which the answer included one of my difficult words, I would then attempt to think of an alternative word to say. I have to say however that I was not happy at having to do this and always hoped that one day I would have the confidence to say exactly what I wanted to.
I am now happy to say that I am able to say whatever word I want to, even words like balti!
Stuttering Therapies For Children

Do you have a stutter? Does one of your children have a stutter? Do you know somebody who has a stutter? This article is all about the speech impediment known as stuttering or stammering. It includes stuttering advice and also treatments which are available to help people who stutter to achieve fluency.
Stuttering is a much larger problem than many people think. Latest research suggests that as many as one percent of the population of the UK has a stuttering problem and that around eighty percent of these people are male.
I had a stutter for eighteen years. I have been informed that I started stuttering when I was only four years of age. For some bizarre reason it took me fully 14 years to realise that speech therapy was not going to work for me; yes 14 years – I am ashamed at myself – or maybe I was just trying to think positive.
There are a great deal of people who have become very good at hiding the fact that they have a speech impediment. They have stated that most of the people that they know are not even aware that they have a speech impediment. This does not mean that life is any easier as to hide the stutter takes a great deal of energy and there are times when it is basically impossible to hide it. Life is tough no matter what form of stutter one has.
Other people are not able to hide their stutter in this way and will have what is perceived to be a much more severe stutter – I knew a person who worked for a composite door company who had this form of speech impediment; he did however manage to overcome the problem after attending a stammering cure course.
There are a number of treatments for stuttering including the normal route of speech therapy via the local doctor or hospital. Many people who stutter find this form of therapy very frustrating as there are often long waiting lists, and the sessions are normally quite short and irregular.
There is also private stop stammering treatments in the form of people who have managed to overcome their own stutter. This can be on a one-to-one basis or in a group situation.

Have you heard about the latest therapy for stammering? This is what is known as specialist stammering therapy. Why? The reason for this is because the speech coach is a person that has previously had a stammer.
Stephen Hill was just four years of age when he started to stammer. Despite attending the many different forms of speech and language therapy classes for many years the stammer continued to plague his life until he was aged twenty-two.
Mr Hill had a single life-time goal or ambition which was to some how achieve fluency. Despite being advised to accept the speech impediment that was ruining his life, Steve continued in his quest to find the “solution to stammering”.
Steve could and would not accept that there was not a cure for stammering. He truly believes that there is only one way that a person should think, positively.
At the age of twenty-two Mr Hill managed to achieve his goal of fluency after working extremely hard to formulate a set of “how to stop stammering techniques”.
He now teaches these techniques to other people who stutter and does this via a one-to-one speech course. There are also a number of self-help stop stammering therapy options available for those people who are unable to attend a course; these include an audio-book, an e-book and a DVD.
Stammering and Stuttering affects many people from all over the world. It is always worth spending to research in this situation.
There is full back up provided where people are able to telephone Steve to ask him any questions that arise.
Steve:
“In the past I often dreamt about what life would be like as a fluent person. Now that I am able to speak free from the fear of stuttering I have to say that it feels even better than what I had imagined to be. I am now able to reach my full potentail in life”.
How To Deal With Bullies
By admin
I was a person who was an easy target for those nasty bullies. I was some what unfortunate to develop a stutter when I was a young child. Despite attending different forms of stuttering therapy I was only able to achieve fluency when I was in my twenties.
I was always struggling with my weight and was larger than most of my other classmates and I was the shortest male in the class.
I had hoped that people who I would meet at work would be rather more mature than these school kids – they are adults after all. How wrong could I have been?
There was one main bully who made my life hell, his name was Gary. Gary constantly took the mickey out of myself and would mimmick my stuttering at regular intervals. I tried to not let it bother me, but it did. I let this continue for nearly year and by now I was feeling very depressed and was ready to quit.
I then came across a piece of brilliant literature which was about playing the nutter card. Basically at for example work, you can be who you want to be. A nutter does not worry about another persons size or weight or power. They are willing to go one step further than the majority of people ane this is they way in which we have to threaten the bully – with belief – this way he/she is more likely to back up – after all they are all supposed to be cowards.
I decided to be brave and give it a go. Trying to fight back in a physical manner was not really an option due to the fact that Gary was probably twice the size of me. He does not know the people in my circle of friends though, I needed to convince him that they could.
On the day when I actually went for it, it had not been planned. I will have to admit that despite really wanting to do this I did not feel that I would have the courage. This day the bullying was very distressing and was in very bad taste. I was really mad and clocked out of work and went to wait by Gary’s car, but hidden behind a tree.
Gary eventually approached his car and went to unlock the door, as he did I jumped on his back but quickly fell off. He turned round with a shocked look on his face, however was happy when he saw that it was me. I started swearing at him and told him that I had had enough. I informed him that a number of my friends are a bit tapped in the head, but that they would do anything to help me. If I told them the abuse he was giving me, they would not be best pleased and would basically beat him to a pulp. I told him that if I ever heard him bad mouthing me again, whether it was directly to my face or behind my back – then I would let them know – he would then have to await his punishment to happen. I then ran off shaking.
The next day I went to work in a nervous state, I am happy to report he fell for the bait and was as good as gold after that.
I still left the company where I worked around six months later, but it was for the right reasons as I had been made a good offer by a local composite doors company but in the end I opted to work for a business cost reduction specialist. I am happy to report that only nice people work for this organisation.

Do you have a stutter or stammer? Are you looking for techniques that would enable you to overcome your stutter? If you have answered these questions in the positive then this article may well be of benefit to you.
The How To Stop Stuttering Centre was established in 1996 by Steve Hill. Steve is a person who developed a stutter when he was a four year old boy and who managed to eradicate his stutter when he was aged twenty-two. Steve states:
“To achieve fluency is far from easy and anybody who is looking for some sort of magic potion or magic pill that they merely swallow to enable them to “stop stuttering” will be left disappointed. Those people however who are willing to work hard and who are determined to kill their stuttering demons will be able to achieve the dream that is fluency”.
Steve mainly helps people by running one-to-one speech courses. The courses are held in the centre of England in a city called Birmingham. These specialist stuttering courses are held over a 2, 3 or 5 day period with each day lasting approximately three and a half hours.
Steve also offers alternative stuttering therapies to the speech course. These therapies are more what you would call “self-help stuttering therapy” and include an e-book, a DVD and an audio book. These products come with full descriptions of the “stuttering therapy techniques”.
Steve has helped people from many different nations including India, Pakistan, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the USA and Australia.
Steve has been featured in the media on a regular basis over the last thirteen years and has said that he is looking forward to helping more people who have a stutter or stammer in the years to come.
It is suggested that out of all of the people that suffer with stuttering there are three times as many men as women that have this form of speech impediment. The stuttering centre in the UK helps all people to achieve fluency whether they are adults or children, women or men.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the stuttering centre.
