Now that the uproar of the 2009 election is over, it will be interesting to watch whether the surge of patriotism we saw will still be alive and well. This election was monumental because of President Obama’s African American lineage, but only over the long haul will we know whether that will be enough to garner peoples’ ongoing interest and support.

It would benefit everyone in the United States, because it’s finally time for us to be unified as one nation. American veterans of foreign wars would certainly benefit from such a change. Many gave their youths to serving in heinous wars and after serving in a war, they sometimes didn’t get the glory they deserved when they came back to the U.S.. That is the reason I created some veterans clip art that promotes the idea that we should honor veterans. This veterans clip art is just a small way we can all show our support. That appreciation could mean the world to veterans who have been disenfranchised. But we need to do more than just send yearly patriotic greeting cards. We need to appreciate their contributions every day. Anyone who has fought for the country has earned it. If that support doesn’t come from us; where will it come from?

Not only veterans would benefit, however, from the U.S. having renewed interest in unity. I would love to see people saluting the American flag when on parade, because they just couldn’t stop themselves from expressing their patriotism. One would hope that love of country will help promote peace. At this moment, it’s up in the air as to whether this unification will come to be. Some people are already vehemently opposed to President Obama’s changes. But that’s just the way American politics works. Dissension can actually help keep the process balanced. At least we hope so. The people of the United States will just have to see what happens.
