Volunteer Work Abroad – Why Participate?

By admin

Volunteer in Africa today with many others participating in year out volunteering every year. Whether you do some teaching abroad or working with HIV victims abroad, you do the work knowing you are helping a good cause. We you aware that the travel and tourism industry is the not only the largest industry in the world but is also growing the most rapidly. The travel and tourism industry has given birth to many niches in the past but the new one is ‘voluntourism’. This new niche of tourism is based around people travelling all over the world to developing nations to volunteer their services to the local communities in projects such as HIV/AIDS awareness and working with street orphans.

However it’s not the only reason you should travel to such destinations. Volunteers are usually given special care to ensure that they have adequate time to enjoy themselves by taking advantage of the beautiful scenery and culture the country has to offer. This is an important fact to consider when choosing a country to volunteer in. Whilst the main aim of participating in international volunteering is to assist a community at a cost to yourself. In some cases there are financial incentives given to volunteers to participate in certain projects. Volunteer companies want to extract the skills from their volunteers and one way of doing this is by offering them financial help. This not only benefits the volunteer but also helps build the bonds between the community and the company. The most common example of this would be those who have medical training, prior humanitarian experience or construction experience. These people with specialist skills will more often than not be offered an incentive in the form of grants.

The rewards for taking part in a volunteer project are vast not only to yourself but also to the project. It is a great activity to do with your friends and family to help maintain the bond you have. Voluntourism gives the normal holiday makers a great chance to actually experience the culture and the country they are in from the inside. This is an opportunity you would not usually get on a package holiday. This is the chance to really help make a difference in the world and help change not only your life but many others around you as well.

Why It’s Important To Help Others Abroad

By admin

Why not volunteer in Africa this year and give something back. Volunteering overseas is a very popular way to spend time out in your life. Whether you do some teaching abroad or volunteer with HIV/AIDS victims, your time will be both hugely beneficial to both you and the project.

Its a well known fact that Africa is the poorest continent in the world and is home to a billion people. Unfortunatley over 50% of these people are in poverty. Nairobi, Kenya is home to one of the largest slums in the world, Kibera. Almost a million people live here with no sanitation and very little running water. The shacks here are made from corrugated iron. Their water is contaminated, many children here have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and are surviving on their own. The sewage runs down the middle of the make shift roads. The slums have been popping up all over Africa as more and more people migrate to the cities in search of jobs. They cannot afford houses so they build shacks on the edge of the towns and cities in places like Kibera.

Volunteering in an excellent way to help counteract the problems that many of these areas are facing. Volunteers from all over the world visit places like Kenya every year to give a helping hand by teaching children English, working with HIV/AIDS victims and also looking after children who are now orphans having lost their parents to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Volunteering gives you as a volunteer a great sense of inspiration and motivation to help when you see the situation of some people for yourself. It is a great feeling to help the poor and needy people among us who really need help and assistance. It gives not only you but the local people a great self- esteem boost knowing that you can make a difference and there is a way forward for everyone.
